Information for DEEPSEA/bionet.biology.deepsea (moderated) USENET Newsgroup name: bionet.biology.deepsea Status: Moderated One Line description: Research in deep-sea marine biology, oceanography, and geology Moderation address: bionet-biology-deepsea@net.bio.net (deepsea-moderator@net.bio.net is an alias for the above) Moderator: Andrew Grant McArthur University of Victoria Mailing list name: DEEPSEA E-mail posting address: deepsea@net.bio.net Newsgroup charter: The DEEPSEA mailing list (hosted by the University of Victoria) has been in operation for over four years, has a membership exceeding 650 researchers, and has subscriptions from over 35 countries. Frequent uses of DEEPSEA have included searches for specialist literature or opinion, specimen exchange, technical discussions, and general discussions about deep-sea marine biology, oceanography, and geology. Geologists and oceanographers have been most welcome, but nearly all of DEEPSEA's subscribers are biologists interested in biological aspects of the deep-sea. DEEPSEA is not associated with any professional society. I will be leaving the University of Victoria in the next year so DEEPSEA requires a stable host network and good archiving systems. BIONET has these resources. Additionally, I hope that the inclusion of DEEPSEA on the USENET will result in additional subscriptions and discussions. I agree to continue as moderator once our mailing list is moved to the BIONET. Andrew Grant McArthur Department of Biology University of Victoria P.O.
