Dale,
I would not even consider fitting ReSound hearing aids without performing
an LGOB on the patient. While it can be somewhat time consuming for some
people, the information it adds is vital to fitting the hearing aids
satisfactorily. I'm constantly amazed at how close the final programming
turns out to be to the "computed" fit using both LGOB and audio. When you
just adjust for the audio only, you're not giving your patients the FULL
benefit of the ReSound system.
Yes, there are a few people who can't get the hang of pushing the buttons
fast enough or making a decision. I do if for them. I ask after each
presentation, how did that sound in comparison to the one before? You can
figure out from what they are saying which button to push. Takes longer, but
isn't a satisfied hearing aid user worth it?
By the way, I also use the LGOB when fitting other systems because the
information is so valuable in helping to select programming and compression
ratios.
