This transition is not going to be easy nor will it be to everyone's
approval. Since the AuD was modeled loosely from the profession of
Optometry and the OD degree, programs will need to look to
pre-optometric education to see how and where to recruit students.
For those of us who are already established in the master's level
profession or those of us just completed and those in current masters'
programs all of this is a bit frighting. I think the transition will
take years (five or more) just to agree on who will be future audiologist
and where they will come from.
It's sure that for the vast majority of undergraduate programs preparing
pre-professional audiology students that the courses and required
material will not pass "muster" with that of pre-optometric education.
