UCLA summer short courses in Biomedical Engineering

This summer, UCLA Extension will present the following biomedical 
engineering short courses on the UCLA campus in Los Angeles.

July 12-16, 1999, "Digital Signal Processing: Theory, Algorithms, and 
Implementation".  The instructor is Robert W. Stewart, PhD, Faculty 
Member, Department of Electronic and Electrical Engineering,
University of Strathclyde, United Kingdom, $1695.

August 11-13, 1999, "Embedded and Real-time Systems".  The 
instructors are Miodrag Potkonjak, PhD, Associate Professor, 
Computer Science Department, UCLA; and Mani Srivastava, PhD, 
Associate Professor, Electrical Engineering Department, UCLA, $1195.

August 23-25, 1999, "Real-Time Image Recognition: Algorithms, 
Systems, and Applications".  The instructor is Bahram Javidi, PhD, 
Professor, Electrical Engineering Department, University of
Connecticut, Storrs, $1295.

August 30-September 1, 1999, "CCD/CMOS Imaging Sensors and 
Applications".  The instructors are James R. Janesick, MSEE, Executive

Vice President and Chief Scientific Director, Advanced Systems
Division, PixelVision; Bedabrata Pain, Member of the Principal
Engineering Staff, Jet Propulsion Laboratory, $1195

September 8-10, 1999, "Medical Image Processing".  The instructor is 
Mostafa Analoui, PhD, Director of Oral and Maxillofacial Imaging 
Research Facility, and Assistant Professor of Oral Surgery, Medicine, 
and Pathology, Indiana University, $1395.

September 21-24, 1999, "Automatic Speech Recognition: Fundamentals 
and Applications".  The instructors are Abeer Alwan, PhD, Associate 
Professor, Electrical Engineering Department, UCLA; and Ananth 
Sankar, PhD, Senior Research Engineer, Speech Technology and 
Research (STAR) Laboratory, SRI International, $1495.
