Technically, no, since von Bekesey's experiments in this area were done on
cadavers. He could probably determine very little about perception in such
subjects. He did, however, find the same pattern of stimulation on the
basilar membrane regardless of the placement of stimulation. This proved
that the pattern of stimulation on the BM is determined by the frequency of
the stimulus and the physical characteristics of the BM.
