Hi Kim,
My name is Lisa , I live in New York and just read your questions concerning your child with capd.
I have a 9 year boy who also has capd. All of your questions that you asked are the same questions that i am trying to find out myself. I've had the Board of Ed. evaluate my son. I've heard that I should seek a professional evaluation instead of the Board of Ed. , which in fact cost around $5,000.00. I know when it comes to your child money should not be an issue ,,, but.. I found out that when he took this test by the Board of Ed. they DID NOT
do anything else but check for his hearing , and came to the conclusion that all he needs is a 'FM' monitor in his classroom so that he can hear the teacher better and hope that whatever she is teaching will penetrate into his brain better. My son does not have a hearing problem at all, but i did understand that a unit placed inside the classroom might be worth trying. -This was a year ago, and might i add it has not helped. The School is not calling this a "disability" for one reason, and one reason only, they do not want to pay for any more help than what he needs. IT IS A SHAME to say, I pay enough taxes , we all pay enough so that our children with special needs unfortunatly cannot get it. Please let me know if any of your questions were answered. Thank you and best of luck to you. Lisa
