The Blocks E-mail searcher had been down due to unexpected complications
arising from a systems upgrade from yesterday afternoon (4/14/93) PST until
this afternoon. Requests sent during that time would have been lost. The
server is back up again, so please try again.

A recent question from Jean-Loup Risler asked for information about programs
to search the Blocks database. The Unix software that is implemented on the
Blocks E-mail searcher (blocks at howard.fhcrc.org) is available from the NCBI
repository by ftp in the /repository/blocks/unix/blocksearch directory. A
DOS program, PATMAT, by Jim Wallace, also searches the Blocks database and is
available by ftp in the /repository/blocks/dos directory or from us on a
floppy disk. Other programs that we are aware of are Rainer Fuch's MacPattern
2.1 for Macintoshes and his Blocksearch program for Unix and VMS machines.
In addition, Anthepro, a DOS sequence analysis package by C. Geourjon and
G. Deleage will carry out searches of the Blocks Database and will also provide
a graphical display of scores.
