As a result of the work at HENSA Unix the UK is a world leader in Web
Caching technology. We have what is probably the most mature Web Cache
anywhere today. We provide a centrally funded service dedicated to the task.
Whilst allowing people to use your local cache is a generous gesture,
the current recommendations are that people encourage their own
institutions to install local caches, or make use of the national cache
at HENSA Unix. I imagine that neither you nor your machines have spare
time to deal with user complaints.
Local caches, such as yours, are then encouraged to make use of the
national cache for any page misses. A quick scan of our logs indicates
that you have not made this configuration :-(
HENSA Unix has 9 processors and 84GB of disk space dedicated to the cache
and is well placed to handle the UK's load.
