Thanks to all who replied. Over the weekend, I got six responses,
which was six more than I expected to get since there was no traffic in
this newsgroup when I posted. However, I am encouraged by your
enthusiasm and will pass the encouraging news to the people in my dept.
that are working with the ALF. In fact, I will forward all your email
responses so that those who had questions can get a response. I will
instruct my people to reply both by email and by posting to this
newsgroup.

Here's the responses I got:

1.

nivil at gengenp.rug.ac.be (Nino Villarroel)

We have one ALF DNA SEQUENCER and also the 373A from ABI.
I would suggest one more general group like AUTOMATIC DNA SEQUENCERS
and we
could include also the other machines in the market like LYCOR, VISTRA,
MILLIPORE, etc.

2.

Tom_Keller at gene.biotech.wisc.edu

We are considering getting one. I would be very interested in knowing
your
reasons for purchasing one, and your level of satisfaction with it.

3.

DELABAR at ARTHUR.CITI2.FR

We are using a ALF seq and are interested by a news group.

4.

ROOS at operoni.Helsinki.FI

The Institute of Biotechnology at the University of Helsinki is running
an
ALF and we've in fact been talking about a news group or a mailing list
with Pharmaciea for at least two years, so we warmly support the idea.

Christophe Roos
computer system manager

P.S. I'll forward this mail to PAULIN at operoni.helsinki.fi (Lars
Paulin), who
is responsible for the sequencing unit.

5.

gabor at ruf.uni-freiburg.de

We have been using an A.L.F. for about a year, and before that the
EMBL prototype of the A.L.F. Both machines are running in routine
research projects within our core facility.

Regards,

Dr. Gabor Igloi

6.

URA1335 at ARTHUR.CITI2.FR

hi!
This idea is great!
I want to participate to the creation
of this discussion group and wait
for your suggestions.

Dr. Bernard ARAL

Thanks again.
