$16-18K Graduate Assistantships in Biofilm Research
The Arnold School of Public Health at the University of South Carolina
has up to 2 graduate research assistantships for bright, innovative and
competitive Ph.D. and M.Sc. students in biofilm research in the Department
of Environmental Health Sciences (ENHS). Additionally, these assistantships
currently bring tuition waivers worth $2-5K/semester. Critical research
area needs address quorum sensing processes, characterization and roles
of extracellular polymers in biofilm processes, and marine stromatolites.
Successful candidates will utilize a range of spectroscopic (FT-IR, raman),
radioisotope, and molecular approaches to the study of biofilm problems.
The Department of ENHS has strong foci on public health and environmental
coastal studies with consistently over $1.2 million/year in federal funding
for the past 5 years. Over 95% of ENHS graduates with M.Sc. or Ph.D. degrees
have become employed in their field within 3 months of graduation. For
further information contact Dr. Alan Decho (adecho at sph.sc.edu) or access
the ENHS website at http:// www.enhs.sph.sc.edu.
