On a completely different topic.
There has been an awful lot of junk mail on this group over the last year,
so much so that I
don't bother to email material to it anymore. Rather than do nothing about
it has prompted me to
consider setting up a non-usenet news server. In fact as of today we have
one running
at Caltech though it's not yet advertised, I'm just waiting to be allocated
a static IP address.
A non-usenet server we could be useful because we could eliminate all the
rubbish
that currently gets sent to metabolic-reg, plus we could introduce other
more specialist groups,
for example we could host other topics in the general area, including
computation, software,
jobs, standards, experimental techniques etc. essentially anything related
to 'system biology'.
The question is, would people be interested in this? The current group can
stay on
usenet but we could create a new metabolic-reg group on our local server. We
have existing
list servers through which we can advertise it's presence and people who
have an interest in system
biology/mca etc, could post links on their web sites. In addition I would be
happy to host other
peoples areas of interest in sys bio, eg a Gepasi news group if Pedro were
interested and so on.
