We're about to undergo some computer upgrades here at CSL. During the
course of this, the Worm Community System will go off-line for a little
while. We are considering the option of not reinstating service after
the upgrade, and I'd like to know if anyone has strong feelings about
this.
The reasons we are considering this are:
1. Most of the data and search functions in WCS are replicated
in WWW sites like the ENQUire system, Leon Avery's worm web site,
and in ACeDB;
2. Maintainence of the data in WCS is difficult; and
3. Key personnel (eg. Ed Grossman, the head programmer) have
left, making new system upgrades unlikely.
We are not taking this decision lightly. If anyone is still using WCS
and does not want to migrate to the alternative sources, then we will
try to keep the servers going, although we can't promise any data
updates.
Please let me know what you think.
Curt.
