I am very sorry to report to the C. elegans community the death of Kevin Van
Doren, who was an assistant professor of biology at Syracuse University where
he studied pre-mRNA splicing in C. elegans. Kevin died on Sat. July 15 while
camping with his family in Adirondack Park in upstate New York. During a
severe storm, a tree fell on their tent, killing Kevin and seriously injuring
his wife Jean. Their two daughters, Corinne and Merideth, were unhurt. Jean
Van Doren is currently hospitalized at the SUNY Health Science Center in
Syracuse, NY and is recovering from a broken pelvis, among other injuries.

Funeral services for Kevin will be held on Sat. July 22 in Syracuse. Those
