The C. elegans Blast Server
===========================

http://www.sanger.ac.uk/~sjj/C.elegans_blast_server.html

This blast server was designed as a quick way of
determining whether any genes that one may be interested
in have been sequenced by the C. elegans genome sequencing
project. The database that can be searched is a nucleotide
database of all the C. elegans sequence so far obtained
by the genome sequencing consortium.

The method of searching is carried out using
BLAST software (A link to a NCBI help page on these is
provided on the blast-server).

Thus, for example, if you were interested in a C. elegans
EST which you wanted to know if the genomic sequence was available,
you would select BLASTN on the blast server and then cut and paste
your EST sequence into the sequence box on the blast-server
(this is the only satisfactory way to do this with HTML at the moment).
Then submit this request and the blast results should appear soon
afterwards, which the user can then inspect and save if (s)he wishes.

Please note that: This blast-server has not been up long and therefore
should still be considered experimental. Also, due to trans-atlantic
lines being slow at present it may take some time before the sequence
you paste in the sequence box actually appears.
