BIOINFORMATICS, the JOURNAL
>From the beginning of 1998, Computer Applications in the Biosciences
(CABIOS) is changing its name to BIOINFORMATICS to portray the current
scope of the journal. BIOINFORMATICS will focus on its priority fields of
computational molecular biology and genome bioinformatics, with emphasis
on the documentation of new algorithms and the development of databases
that manage complex biological information generated by genome projects.
The name change highlights the importance of bioinformatics in a
rapidly-changing world, emerging as one of the leading disciplines in
science. The principal aim of the editors Gary Stormo and Chris Sander
is to publish innovative, exciting, science that is part of the important
advancements in bioinformatics.
The name also heralds the new electronic version of the journal, with
an online service, similar to its sister journal Nucleic Acids Research.
In addition to original papers, reviews and application notes, new
categories of papers will be introduced.
