PhD Studentship Place
Blaxter Nematode genetics Lab, ICAPB, Edinburgh
A PhD studentship (MRC funded) is available in the Blaxter lab to work on
the analysis of the genome of Brugia malayi, the causative agent of human
filariasis. We are part of a global project of gene discovery and genome
mapping which aims to use genomics tools to aid drug target and vaccine
candidate discovery (see http://helios.bto.ed.ac.uk/mbx/fgn/filgen1.html).
The project will involve genome mapping, gene analysis and bioinformatics.
A major part of the project will be looking at the similarities and
differences between the C. elegans genome and the genome of this important
parasite. There will also be the opportunity to participate in genome
initiatives on other human parasitic nematodes.
Studentships are awarded competitively, so please contact Mark Blaxter as
soon as is possible. The project will be based in ICAPB, Edinburgh, a 5
rated department with an active graduate school and wide ranging research
interests. The studentship is funded by the MRC, and this advert is aimed
primarily at UK nationals; EU nationals may also apply, but funding for
them is more restrictive.
