How difficult is injection to do? I understand one has to inject DNA
with micropipets into anaesthesized worm gonads under a microscope,
which sounds not quite trivial to me.

Otoh, I have liters of E. coli culture with the gene I want to
transfect the worms with. Is there any chance that C. elegans can
incorporate the gene spontaneously from DNA in the culture medium/the
food bacteria with the right gene, especially in the presence of a
selection pressure (periodic freezing)? Would adding DMSO/other agents
(which?) help, or is this certifiably impossible?

(I know this sounds strange, but I don't have access to "real"
recombinant DNA technology -- I'd like to piggy-back on somebody
else's project).

TIA,

Eugene Leitl
