SMITHKLINE BEECHAM PHARMACEUTICALS
Ph.D. Scientist -- Comparative Genetics,C. elegans
SmithKline Beecham is a leader in functional genomics as applied to
pharmaceutical research and development. Our Department of Comparative
Genetics conducts gene-based biology in model organisms (primarily yeast
and mouse) to identify and validate drug targets, to develop drug screens,
and to generate animal models for human disease. We are currently
expanding to create an inhouse Caenorhabditis elegans genetics group.
The successful candidate will be the principal investigator to lead our new
initiative in C. elegans genetics, and will exploit C. elegans as a model
organism to identify and characterize the functions of novel genes and
their human counterparts. C. elegans genetics will also be used to
investigate the mechanisms of action of pharmaceutical agents.
Requires: Ph.D. in Genetics or related discipline; 2-5 years post-doctoral
experience; a strong background in classical and recombinant C. elegans
genetics; and a proven record of scientific achievement as evidenced by
publications in leading scientific journals. SmithKline Beecham scientists
are encouraged to publish their research findings.
