Two postdoctoral positions

As a result of a BBSRC award under the Genomics in Animal Function
Initiative, two postdoctoral positions are available for highly motivated
career scientists to join a collaborative effort between the Universities
of Bath and Southampton. The project capitalises on the recent sequencing
of the C.elegans genome and will use molecular, transgenic and
electrophysiological techniques to characterise glutamate-gated chloride
channels in the nematodes Caenorhabditis elegans and Haemonchus contortus.
These receptors are the target site of the macrocyclic lactone
anthelminthics such as ivermectin. Both positions will provide the
opportunity for training in a range of techniques from molecular genetics
through to electrophysiology and are based in departments with excellent
research facilities.

1) A molecular geneticist is required to join the laboratory of Dr. Adrian
Wolstenholme in the Department of Biology & Biochemistry at the University
of Bath. S/he will be responsible for the creation and characterisation of
transgenic C. elegans strains expressing mutated GluCl subunits and those
isolated from parasitic nematodes.

For further information please contact Dr. Adrian Wolstenholme, Dept. of
Biology & Biochemistry, University of Bath, Bath BA2 7AY, UK, telephone
(44) 1225 826553, email a.j.wolstenholme at bath.ac.uk

2) An electrophysiologist is required in the laboratory of Dr. Lindy
Holden-Dye at the Centre for NeuroScience at the University of
Southampton. Experience in patch-clamp techniques would be an advantage.
Previous experience with C.elegans is not essential.

For further information on this post please contact Dr. Lindy Holden-Dye,
School of Biological Sciences, University of Southampton, Bassett Crescent
East, Southampton SO16 7PX, UK, telephone (44) 2380 594295, email
