Taxonomist/Mycologist Position at NCBI/GenBank
The Taxonomy Project at the National Center for Biotechnology
Information (NCBI) in the National Library of Medicine (NLM) is looking
for a postdoctoral scientist with a minimum of 3 years of experience in
fungal systematics.
Familiarity with the principles of phylogenetic systematics and
knowledge of the rules of nomenclature are strongly desired. The
successful candidate will be required to devote 50% of her/his time to
the work associated with maintaining the taxonomy database. This
includes familiarity with current literature on classification
systems, maintaining contact with outside taxonomy consultants, and
verifying and adding new names to the existing taxonomy database. The
other 50% of the time will be available for independent research.
The initial salary for a scientist in the NIH Intramural Research
Training Program (IRTA) with three years post-doctoral experience will
be between US$ 30,000-36,000 depending on qualifications. The initial
appointment will be a commitment for two years and could be
extended. A health care package is offered as part of the postdoctoral
appointment.
