POSTDOCTORAL POSITIONS

Three postdoctoral positions, funded by the Medical Research Council
(UK), are available in the laboratory of Jonathan Hodgkin at the
University of Oxford, England. These positions are for the study of
interaction between C. elegans and a newly discovered bacterial
pathogen, Microbacterium nematophilum. This interaction results in
morphogenetic changes to the host, and is therefore relevant to
developmental processes as well as to pathogenicity and host-parasite
interactions. Both host (C. elegans) and parasite (M. nematophilum)
are being subjected to investigation. Numerous infection-resistant
C.elegans mutants have been isolated and are being studied. These
mutants define at least 16 complementation groups, most of which are
novel genes (see recent abstracts, WBG16:1, p38; 12th Int Ce Mtg,
Abstract 400; European Ce Mtg 2000, Abstract 58).

Applicants should have experience in at least one of the following
fields: classical and/or molecular genetics of model organisms,
molecular biology, gene cloning, genomic analysis. Experience with
C. elegans or with bacterial genetics is desirable but not essential.

The positions are available from 1st October 2000, for three years in the
first instance. For further details, see the Oxford University Department
of Biochemistry website:
