Do you use the Proteome WormPD database? You may be aware that
beginning June 1 academic labs will have to purchase a subscription to
access the database. The cost will be $2000US per year for each PI
(possibly more if you have a large lab--you can get details at
http://www.incyte.com/sequence/proteome/subscription.shtml). This cost
seems unreasonably high, and many labs will not be able afford it.
Incyte Genomics is a private company, and they can charge whatever they
want for their information. However, we may be able to convince them to
maintain free access for academic labs. Let me know if you think it's
worth it to fight for this, and if you have any ideas about how we can
convince them to give a break to academics. Thanks.
