In response to decent numbers of inquiry that we received recently, we

Thermotaxis of C. elegans was definied by Hedgecock and Russell (1975), who
developed assay procedures and, for the first time, screened directly for
thermotaxis-defective mutants. Our lab owes to their procedures, let alone
scientific inspiration for this interesting behavior.
