Laboratory Research Technician position
Are you graduating this spring and planning to work for about a year
before attending graduate school or medical school? A Research
Technician position is available in the Kohn lab at Ursinus College in
Collegeville, PA beginning this summer. Ursinus College is a small
liberal arts college in suburban Pennsylvania, approximately 45 minutes
from Philadelphia (department webpage,
http://webpages.ursinus.edu/biology/newbiodept_web/index.htm).
Research in the laboratory examines regulation of neurotransmitter
release in the nematode C. elegans. Cell biological, molecular
biological, and genetic approaches are used to study the nervous system.
The successful applicant will have an independent research project and
will oversee general lab operations such as ordering supplies,
maintaining stocks, and answering general questions from undergraduate
researchers.
Applicants should have a bachelor's degree by the time the position
begins in the summer of 2005. Some research experience is required, but
previous work with C. elegans is not necessary. High levels of
motivation, independence, and organization, and an ability to work well
with others are expected. This position is ideal for an undergraduate
student graduating in 2005 who would like to work for approximately a
year before attending graduate school or medical school. Previous
technicians from the laboratory are now pursuing Ph.D.s at Georgetown
University and The Johns Hopkins University Medical School.
