I am happy to pass on the the following message from Thomas
Bürglin. Bill Morgan, CELEGANS moderator

Announcing the Worm Community Forum (WCF)
Web site: www.wormbase.org/forums/

The WCF is designed to be a virtual meeting place for members of the
worm
community to make announcements, to discuss scientific and other issues,
and to provide an outlet for posting and sharing small pieces of
data and methods.
In particular, the WCF hopes to pick up the gap left when the Worm
Breeder's
Gazette became defunct.

In order to use the WCF to its fullest, we recommend that people
register. While
we have considered leaving the Forum unrestricted, experience with the
Discussion Forum at WormAtlas has shown that this leads to too much
SPAM.

After registering, users have the capability to participate in polls
and post their
own messages. For those users, who are concerned about privacy, it is
possible
to hide their email address, and it is possible to register with an
alias. However,
for scientific purposes, it would be nice to see as many established
members
of the community as possible to contribute their expertise.
Particular types of
settings can be adjusted under the user's profile.

For those users who still participate in bionet.celegans and prefer
primarily email
notifications, the WCF offers the possibility for email notification.
Settings are
available in the users profile and notification is activated in the
different boards.
Another convenient way to stay in touch with the postings on the WCF
is by using
RSS feeds.

At present, there are relatively few boards (categories), but when
traffic increases
in the future, additional boards and child categories can easily be
added.

We are also seeking moderators of specific topics. If you are
interested in moderating
a topic of interest, please contact Todd Harris (harris AT cshl.edu)
or Thomas
Burglin (thomas.burglin AT biosci DOT ki DOT se).

Citation: Any information obtained from the WCF is to be treated as
unpublished
material, and should not be used in publications. If you want to use
any of the
information on the WCF in a publication, contact the original author/
poster of the
material and ask for permission to include it as a personal
communication, or
obtain a proper citation.

We hope you enjoy the WCF and that you will actively participate
to make it a vibrant community.
