Post-doctoral position at University College
London to study the biology of protein ageing in
C. elegans
Applications are invited for a three-year,
European Union-funded post in the UCL Centre for
Research on Ageing, in the laboratory of David
Gems (www.ucl.ac.uk/~ucbtdag/).
This position is for work on understanding the
biological determinants of ageing and longevity
in C. elegans. A major focus will be testing
candidate mechanisms of ageing, which will
involve construction of transgenic nematode
lines, development of biochemical assays (in
collaboration with Prof. Jennifer Rivett, Dept.
of Biochemistry, Bristol University), and stress
resistance and lifespan assays. This post is part
of the EU (Framework 6) Integrated Project:
"Proteomage, The Ageing Proteome", and is a three
year post, with a possible extension to five
years. Experience of molecular biology is
essential, and of protein chemistry (e.g. protein
purification, Westerns) and C. elegans genetics
and biology is highly desirable. The successful
applicant will join an established research team
in the Centre for Research into Ageing, and a
broader consortium of 18 other European research
groups and companies. An ability to work in a
busy and interactive environment is essential.
Please direct applications (including a CV with
three referees) and enquiries about further
details of the project to Dr David Gems
(david.gems at ucl.ac.uk), Tel: +44 (0) 20 7679
4381. The pay level depends on age and
experience, but starts at point 8 on the
University RA1A scale: starting salary currently
£24,352 (~$43,600) plus London Allowance (£2,400,
or ~$4,300). Position available from March 2006.
