The Biotechnology Centre of Oslo (BiO) is a centre for molecular
biology, biotechnology, and bioinformatics within the University of
Oslo, devoted to research and post-graduate training. The Centre has a
common research focus on cellular signalling.
A 3 year position for a post-doctoral research fellow is available at
the DNA damage response laboratory at BiO.
Our research aim is to understand how spontaneously generated DNA damage
is sensed, signalled and repaired in metazoan organisms. We also seek to
understand how accumulation of endogenously generated DNA damage affects
cell physiology. A particular focus in our work is to elucidate the role
of DNA repair enzymes in the activation of the signal transduction
cascades that lead to activation of cell cycle arrest and apoptosis in
response to endogenously generated DNA damage. We use genetic, cell
biological and biochemical approaches and C. elegans and human cell
lines as model systems in our research.
We seek a highly motivated candidate with experience from studies of DNA
repair, DNA damage response pathways, or extensive practical C.elegans
experience to study responses to oxidative DNA damage in C. elegans. The
project involves genetic studies in C.elegans, characterisation of
mutant phenotypes with respect to mutagenesis, transcriptome analyses,
and lifespan, RNAi screening, and extensive use of microscopy.
We seek a highly motivated candidate with a PhD in relevant disciplines
with the ability to work independently and in teams. We have an
international work environment and use English as working language.
Candidates with practical experience with C.elegans will be preferred.
