A joint meeting of the Marine Studies Group of the Geological Society,
BRIDGE and the Challenger Society for Marine Science.

The latest cutting-edge research in the deep-ocean will be applied to
ore-bearing and fossilised mid-ocean ridge systems on land. Leading experts
will present their findings on both modern and ancient systems. This
meeting has been rescheduled from 14th - 15th May to avoid an overlap with
the Neves Corvo Field Conference in Lisbon. Now you can attend both.

OUTLINE PROGRAMME:

Tuesday 20th May

Introduction

Keynote address

Session 1 - Crustal accretion at modern and ancient mid-ocean ridge systems

Lunch

Session 2 - Alteration of oceanic crust and evaluation of hydrothermal fluxes

Poster session at the Royal Institution of Great Britain (where Humphry Davy
discovered Sodium, Magnesium, Potassium, Calcium, Strontium, Barium and
Michael Faraday.)

Social event

Wednesday 21st May

Session 3 - Refining our understanding of ore formation

Lunch

Session 4 - Site colonisation: Evidence from modern systems and the
geological record

It is anticipated that this meeting will result in a Special Publication of
the Geological Society, as did the previous joint meetings: Hydrothermal
Vents and Processes (No. 87), and Tectonic, Magmatic, Hydrothermal and
Biological Segmentation at Mid Ocean Ridges (No. 118).

Those interested in attending should register with the convenor as soon as
possible. Offers of papers/posters should also be sent to the convenor.
