Call for Applications for Submersible Diving Cruises on Mid-Ocean Ridges
-- "Shinkai 6500"/"Yokosuka" on the Indian and Mid-Atlantic Ridges --
DEADLINE: 10 AM, December 31, 1997, in Japan

As was announced in InterRidge Newsletter Vol. 6, No. 2, page 50,
JAMSTEC (Japan Marine Science and Technology Center) will carry out
2 diving cruises in the Mid-Atlantic and 2 cruises in the Indian Ocean.
Leg 1: June 19 (San Juan) - July 18 (Lisbon)
MAR 15 20'N Cape Verde Fracture Zone
Leg 2: July 22 (Lisbon) - August 25 (Marceille)
MAR hydrothermal sites (26 N - 36 N)
Leg 3: September 21 (Lisbon) - October 17 (Port Louis)
SWIR or CIR near the Rodriguez Triple Junction
Leg 4: October 23 (Port Louis) - November 18 (Port Louis)
SWIR near the Atlantis II Fracture Zone
Fifteen dives are planned during each leg. While Leg 1 and Leg 4
will be JAMSTEC-WHOI joint research cruises, Leg 2 and Leg 3 will
be open to InterRidge community. InterRidge Japan Office will collect
diving proposals from the InterRidge community and the proposals will
be reviewed by an annual planning committee of JAMSTEC. Final decision
will be made by March 1998.
Principal investigators of a research group planning to join the
cruises are requested to submit a short letter of intent in the Form A
shown below. Application for underway geophysics on board the support
vessel "Yokosuka" or for shore-based researches are also welcome in
the same form. Principal investigators and diving scientists have to
fill the Form B also.
Form A and Form B have to be received by the InterRidge Japan Office
by 10 AM December 31, 1997 (local time in Japan), at the following
address by e-mail, fax, or air mail.
