Dr. Barton,

   I'd recommend "Deep-Sea Biology", published in 1991.  The authors are
Paul Tyler and John Gage, two well-respected deep-sea biologists from the
U.K.  There are other, less recent books as well, but these are cited by
Tyler and Gage and can be pursued separately.
