Dear Friends of the NE Pacific:
We are quickly approaching another busy cruise season in the Northeast
Pacific. On behalf of the RIDGE program, I am organizing the cruise
information again this year for the Juan de Fuca Ridge, Gorda Ridge, and
adjacent waters. Consequently, I am seeking information about scheduled
or hoped-for cruises during this field season. If you are a Chief
Scientist for this year, please reply by email (baker at pmel.noaa.gov) so
that I may mail or fax you forms on which you can report your cruise
schedule, operations, mooring and transponder deployments/recoveries,
submersible/ROV dives, and deep-tow operations. This information is
intended to provide a guide to potential coordination needs with your
colleagues. This coordination will mitigate potential hazards such as
the entanglement of moorings with deep tows, incompatible operations
scheduled for the same place and time, and cross-talk between
transponders and releases. You will be provided a copy of the resulting
report of locations and dates for cruises and their various operations.
The information will also be directly available on the PMEL web site at
the address:

This site is currently shows information from 1996 operations. If you
wish, you can update the 1996 information directly from the web site,
but please be sure and include all pertinent information about cruise
operations, moorings, etc. (note that there are four separate forms:
cruises, moorings, transponders, and deep-tows). If you are unfamiliar
with the procedure the forms will probably be helpful. Please respond
as soon as possible so I can finish the update by at least the end of
April.
