Aqualane

To the Deepsea community,

I was hoping you may be able to assist with some research I am trying to do
on an extract of shark liver oil. I have come across a product from New
Zealand which states as one of its active ingredients 'Aqualane'. I
contacted the manufacturer and asked if this was not Squalane (Squalene or
Scalene) and was informed that no it was not as it was extracted and
processed differently, had a different chemical composition and is
generically known as 'Aqualane'. The manufacturer claims the ingredient is a
natural transdermal.

They stated that Aqualane is derived form the shark 'Etmopterus' found of
the coastal waters of NZ. I assume this is the Latern Shark but I am taking
a guess.

I have not being able to find any reference to Aqualane on the internet or
within on-line libraries. I was hoping your community may be able to assist.

Thank you in advance

Martin Burns
