This is a critical question for anyone organising labs or selling test kits,
but there is very little good data. I would also like to here of examples.
Part of the problem is the difficulty in doing such studies, and part of it is
laboratory folks who are more interested in other aspects of their work.
One study supporting the idea is Doern et al, J Clin Micro 1994:32;1757-1762.
They compared a rapid method and a traditional method for susceptibility
testing of bacteria and found savings in hospital costs as well as lower
mortality rates. Seems almost too good to be true.
