This may be a trivial question, but I'd be grateful of an answer.
Can anyone tell me why different species of winter deciduous tree lose their
leaves at different times? Near where I live there is a park with a good
mixture of oak and horse chestnut, all about the same height and with no
particular difference in aspect. The oaks have hardly lost any leaves yet,
and
are still very green, but the horse chestnuts have lost all their leaves
already. I'd be interested in hearing why the two species behave differently.
