Assistantship in Plant Physiological Ecology
</bigger></bigger></bigger></fontfamily></bold><fontfamily><param>Times</param><bigger><bigger>A
Ph.D assistantship is available to work on questions associated with
root ecology and physiology. A student can major in the graduate
programs of Ecology, Plant Physiology or Horticulture. Work in the lab
is primarily oriented towards understanding the physiology and ecology
of roots in a field setting. Current projects involve comparisons of
the physiological ecology of roots of forest trees of different life
history strategies, the roles of herbivory and defense in affecting
root longevity, effects of environmental stresses on root dynamics,
patterns and consequences of mycorrhizal colonization and root
competition. Species include fruit trees, desert shrubs and forest
trees. Students will be expected to serve as TA in a graduate course
in Plant Ecophysiology.
