Objectives of Conference:
Forest is the major vegetation type and the most important
ecosystems
in the global environment. It is also the most important controlling
agent
that regulating human welfares. It has complex structures,overwhelming
functions and high diversities in the bioshere. But this important
resources has been damaged and used unrationally. It is urgently needed
for
forest resources be conserved and managed sustainably. In order to
promote
the understanding,conservation and sustainable management of forest
resources in the world, we are going to sponsor an international
conference on biodiversity conservation and sustainable management of
forest ecosystems.
Aims of Conference:
1. To share the knowlege and technologies needed for sustainable
management
of forest resource and biodiversity conservation;
2. To promote multifunctional management and utilization of forest
resources;
3. To understand dynamic changes in functioning and stability of forest
ecosystems in response to global change;
4. The ultimate outputs and information resulting from the conference
will
improve our existing scientific, technical, and socio-economic
knowledges
about forest resources, by which we can sustainably conserve and manage
forest ecosystems.

- Hydrological cycles and Biogeochimical cycling
- Ecophysiological processes
- Ecosystem dynamic and modelling
- Global change and forest ecosystems
2. Diversity and dynamics of forest communities
- Biodiversity monitoring and assessment
- Mechanism of forest species endangement
- Speciece diversity and community succession
- Conservation strategies of forest biodiversity
3. Sustainable management and landcape planning
- Criteria and indicators for sustainable forest management
- Theory and practice of ecosystem management
- Disturbance and its impacts on species and landscapes
- Methologies used in the landscape planning and management
4. Social and economical aspects of forest management
- Public perception and participatory management
- Policy, decision making and regulation
- Multipurpose unitilization of forest resources
- Ecotourism
Instructions for Authors:
Those who are interested in attending the conference, should submit
an
abstract of a paper by March 1, 2000. The abstract should be between 250
to
300 words and should be written in English, including the title of the
paper, name of authors, full postal address such as telephone, fax and
e-mail address. Please indicate the submitted paper in one of the above
topics and your preference for oral presentation or poster.
Notification of acceptance with a form of presenting as oral or at the
poster session, or rejection will be sent by May 1, 2000. Abstract
proceedings will provided to all participants at the registration.
Instructions for a full paper will be released in the second circular.
Official Language:
Official language is English. If required, English interpretation will
be
provided.
Place of the Conference and Costs:
The Conference will be held in WangJiang Hotel, Chengdu city, Sichuan
Province, where accommodation is also possible. WangJiang Hotel is
located
approximately 20 miles from Chengdu Airport and transportation are
convenient between Airport and WangJiang hotel, and between Wangjiang
hotel
and the downtown of Chengdu with buses, taxis and airport-buses running
almost 24 hours a day. The conference host will provide buses for
picking
up participants at Chengdu Airport during the conference registration
day.
All the costs of travel will be covered by the participants
themselves.
One-day registration is available on August 14, 2000. The registration
fee
is 300 US$ (two-day meeting, and proceedings cost, welcome and farewell
party ects.).
Accommodations and meal fee (one person & night) is 100US$. Post
conference excursion fee is 500US$ (transportation, accommodation, meals
and all related social activities during the five-day field excursion
for
each person).

- To see Jiuzhaigou National Nature Reserve (World Natural
Heritage), wonderland and ecoturism (Natural, cultural and
religious features) Jiuzhaigou, Alba Tibetan and Qiang minority
areas
August 21 Return to Chengdu Wangjiang Hotel, Chengdu
