you can watch a pumpkin germinate and grow in the Max-Planck-Institute of
Molecular Plant Physiology.
This happens in a gastight apparatus, the Biobox, which controls the
temperature, air humidity, light, and the concentrations of CO2 and oxygen
in the atmosphere. The exchange rates of CO2 and oxygen are measured all the
time.
This trial will run for about 12 more days, after that time the CO2 in the
Biobox will be replaced by the stable isotop 13CO2.
After a while probes will be taken and parts of the metabolite of the plant
will be analysed.
You can look at a new picture every 10 minutes (pic_10min.jpg). Pictures are
saved every 6 hours (pic_6hxxxx.jpg). screen.jpg is a screenshot of the
control programm and gives an overview of the conditions inside the Biobox.
Biobox.box is an ASCII-file which contains all the data of the environment
and gas exchange rates. It has to be processed with some kind of spreadsheet
programm.
