Since Sat May 11 through Sun May 19, all of our attempts
to ftp large files from ftp.ncbi.nih.gov:genbank/daily/
have failed. Our ftp processes are in scripts that
we have been using successfully for several years, but
all of a sudden they are failing. We have tried running
the ftp by hand without success as well. The ftp process
transfers thirty or forty thousand bytes then aborts.
We tried to use the bio-mirror.net GenBank mirror site but
discovered that the "daily" files there have not been
updated since May 10. This suggests that the bio-mirror
ftp processes, which are probably automated, are also
failing when they attempt to obtain current files from
the NCBI source site. Here is a directory listing from
bio-mirror.net made today, May 20, that shows the
out-of-date state of their files:
ftp> pwd
257 "/biomirror/genbank/daily" is current directory.
ftp> ls -l
200 PORT command successful.
150 Opening ASCII mode data connection for /bin/ls.
