In Drosophila, the dunce gene has a rather large
intron (about 50kb)
and within this intron is one (or more) gene(s) for a
protien called
something like salivary glue protein. I'm not sure
the direction that
the salivary glue protein mRNA is transcribed in, but
it is certainly
contained in the dunce intron.
For dunce references, look up papers authored by Ron
Davis or Duncan
Byers.
