With myself and my collegues we base the decision on the amount of
intellectual contribution. If the technician played a major role in
the design of the experiment and the analysis of the results, then
he/she should be a co-author. If on the other hand, the technician
was simply carrying out routine or repetitive tasks, then no
co-authorship is warranted.
