A fascinating paper on HIV and retroviruses has just appeared in our
library (Hemert & Berkout, J. Mol. Evol. 41:132-140). I was concerned to
note that the recorded acceptance date was 23rd October 1994! Thus, there
has been a publication delay by Springer-Verlag of about 10 months!
It is sad that the biomedical research community is denied access to work
of this nature solely because of problems at the publication level (presumably
a back-log of acceptable publications and an unwillingness to increase volume
size or numbers).
Roll on the era of electronic publishing!
