A post-doctoral research associate position is available in May 1998 in the
USDA-ARS located on the campus of Iowa State University in Ames, IA. The
incumbent will participate in a multidisciplinary collaboration aimed at
improving the nutritional, economic and agronomic value of corn kernels by
designing and constructing novel genes that will be used for maize
transformation. The Iowa State University Plant Transformation Facility
will carry out plant transformations. The incumbent will be responsible
design and construction of genes for transformation and for analyzing
transgenic tissues to asses the effects of transgenes. This may require the
development of immunological or biochemical methods to quantify the desired
traits. The initial objective is to develop varieties suited to swine feed
production by expressing key feed ingredients in corn kernels. This is a
unique opportunity to contribute to a contemporary crop improvement program
involving biochemists, nutritionists, veterinarians and plant breeders.
Annual Salary: $37,507 (USD) + benefits. The USDA is an equal
opportunity employer. Minority and disabled candidates are encouraged to
apply. Candidates must have completed all requirements for their Ph.D.
