I wasn't in the original harvest index discussion, but is harvest
index the same thing as harvest index ratio??? If not please let me
know.
Donald and Hamblin (1976) define HIr as
HIr = (EY(1-WC))/DM
where EY is economic yield, WC is water content wet basis and DM is
aerial Dry matter. I would think HIr would increase if EY
increases as it has over the last ?? years. Yes DM includes EY, but
as an example (numbers may not be right)
EY = 100 at time 1
DM= 150 at time 1
EY = 200 at time 2
DM= 250 at time 2 if plants aren't larger vegetatively
200/250 is a greater percentage than 100/150.
In respect to original question about converting pounds to bushel, I
don't see why HI is a part. 56 lbs/bu at 15.5 moisture wet basis
should be extent of answer.
