US Rice Genome Workshop

                   U.S. WORKSHOP FOR RICE GENOMIC SEQUENCING
                              Arlington, Virginia
                                 April 8, 1998

The purpose of the workshop is to promote and coordinate US activities in rice
genomic sequencing with the International Rice Genome Sequencing Project.

1) Appropriateness of rice as subject for genomic sequencing.
2) Status of the International Rice Genome Sequencing Project.
3) Plan US response.
4) Engage and help US funding agencies in planning their activities.


Topics to be covered:

General state of rice research and materials that are available.
Relationship of rice to other plants.
Report on the Working Group meeting of the International Rice Genome Project.
Progress and plans of the Japanese Rice Genome Research Program.
Rice BAC libraries.
Preliminary information from rice genomic sequences.
Activities in Europe related to the Rice Genome Project.
Interests and plans of U.S. funding agencies.
Organization of U.S. rice genomic sequencing activities.
