Research Coordinator
Product Development - Late Maize Southern USA
Location: Princeton, Indiana
Job Purpose:
Lead a team of agricultural research scientists responsible for combining
new transgenic traits and technologies with elite germplasm to create
improved inbreds and hybrids for the Late Maize areas of the USA.
Duties/Responsibilities:
Coordinate and lead a team of research scientists in increasing quantitative
genetic gain, and integration of transgenic crop protection traits and grain
traits into Pioneer germplasm, for the purpose of developing enhanced value
products for the Southern USA. Be a contributing member of a coordinator
team supporting Late Maize areas around the world. Work with the Research
Directors, other Research Coordinators and Managers to establish and meet
team project goals consistent with business unit goals. Provide management
and scientific leadership when initiating, designing and executing research
projects. Remain current on new technologies and their application.
Continually enhance product development efforts. Work closely with
laboratory and field scientists to ensure effective and efficient research
and business processes are in place. Serve on cross-functional teams
appropriate for team research initiatives.
Educational Qualifications Desired:
Ph.D. or equivalent in plant breeding, genetics or related field with a
strong background in molecular and whole plant genetics and supporting
sciences. More than five years of directly related field experience.
Competencies and Experience Desired:
At least five years of seed industry research experience with a strong
background in genetics and demonstrated ability to apply new technology.
Also requires knowledge of agronomics, statistics, experimental design, good
PC skills, and understanding of pathology and entomology. Direct experience
in managing research programs and personnel is essential. Must have strong
team management skills including team building, leadership, delegation and
motivation. Ability to communicate and interact effectively in diverse
scientific and professional settings. Demonstrated success in setting and
achieving research goals and technology transfer.
