Dear Cooperators,

The 1998 UMC Maize Maps have been posted, pre-publication on the MaizeDB
server.
 	 http://www.agron.missouri.edu/Coop/UMC98Map.html
These maps include sequenced core markers, grass genome reference
points, and 932 EST's in a 1736 locus map.

Sequence information available in central repositories (dbEST and or
GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ) has been linked to the individual MaizeDB records.
Several hundred sequences for probes used in these maps are being
processed for submission and are available at Cold Spring Harbor, where
a BLAST server has been installed.

The UMC maps represent over 40% of the 4486 genes and probed sites that
have been integrated into the bins maps, which also include 2202
cytogenetic points.

UMC maps overlap several other major maize maps, and share 390 sites
with BNL (Brookhaven National Laboratory) maps, 237 with CU (Cornell
Univerity) maps, 145 with the Genetic maps, and 230 with Consensus SSR maps.

This report updates the map status information provided earlier to the
1997 MNL:
