Staff Research Associate II position available immediately at U.C. San
Diego.  Candidate will participate in new NSF-funded project entitled
"Maize Gene Discovery, Sequencing and Phenotypic Analysis" involving 10
laboratories at 6 universities.  Required skills and knowledge include:
college level course work in genetics, molecular biology and chemistry, and
practical experience with molecular biology techniques.  Experience working
with maize is preferred.  Field work duties include planting, cultivating,
collecting tissue samples, and pollinating maize plants, as well as
examination of plants for segregation of mutant phenotypes.  Laboratory
duties include preparation of DNA and RNA, construction of libraries, and
use of PCR to identify transposon insertions in genes of interest.
Management duties include maintaining records of entire project and
supervision of undergraduate assistants.  Enthusiasm for outdoor work, and
excellent organization and information management skills are essential for
