TWO ASSISTANT PROFESSOR POSITIONS AVAILABLE AT THE UNIVERSITY OF
DELAWARE:
(SECOND POSTING)
Position #1: PLANT BIOLOGIST
Individuals whose work focuses on the use of molecular level approaches
to study biochemical genetics, multigenic traits, metabolic engineering,
or secondary metabolism relevant to plant resistance to insect stress
are encouraged to apply.
Position #2: PLANT DEVELOPMENTAL BIOLOGIST
Applications are encouraged from individuals whose work falls under the
broad rubric of plant developmental biology.
We are looking first and foremost for outstanding scientists and thus
strongly encourage applications from all areas of contemporary plant
biology regardless of whether the individuals match the above
descriptions. The individuals selected for both positions must develop
strong, extramurally-funded research programs. Qualified applicants
must have a comprehensive understanding of and demonstrated research
creativity and productivity in plant biology using contemporary
approaches.
The individuals would have the opportunity to interface with a
world-class effort in plant structural and functional genomics at
Dupont, through the University of Delaware Center for Agricultural
Biotechnology. Faculty appointed in the Center can enjoy especially
close ties with DuPont scientists. They will also be able to sponsor
graduate students through a new initiative in which students will
interact with both DuPont scientists and University of Delaware faculty
members and have the option of doing thesis work either at DuPont or at
the University.
A commitment to advising and teaching undergraduate and graduate
students is important. Specific teaching obligations will be arranged
according to the individuals' backgrounds and university needs.
Qualifications: Ph.D. in plant biology or a related field with
post-doctoral or equivalent experience. The individuals must be able to
communicate effectively with academic, government, and industry
colleagues and with students.
Rank and Salary: Assistant Professor; 9-month appointment; tenure-track
position; salary commensurate with training and experience. The

Newark, Delaware is located close to the borders of both Pennsylvania
and Maryland. Philadelphia, PA is 45 minutes away, Baltimore is an
hour, Washington, D.C. is an hour and a half, and New York City is just
under two hours as are both beaches and mountains. Cost of living is
relatively low.
