POSTDOCTORAL POSITION AVAILABLE FOR THE CLONING AND STUDY OF A GENE
INVOLVED IN RESISTANCE TO THE PARASITIC WEED STRIGA

A postdoctoral position is available for an individual with extensive
experience in molecular genetics. Research is centered on cloning of
orthologous Striga-resistance genes from rice and sorghum. Striga is the
single most devastating biological limitation to food production in
Africa, and provides a novel/powerful system for the study of plant::plant
interactions. The resistance gene is well-mapped, and will be isolated by
a map-based approach using sorghum and rice BAC contigs. Experience in
cloning and subcloning are essential. Expertise in plant pathology,
evolutionary biology and/or bioinformatics would be a definite plus.
Salary will be $25,000-$35,000 per annum, commensurate with experience.
Support is for two years, and can start as early as October of 1999.
However, the PI is moving his lab from Purdue University to UW Madison
during the first half of 2000, so starting at or transferring to Madison
would be expected.
