I am a dental hygiene educator and had an interesting situation today in our
clinic. We have a patient from Romania who is taking a medication called
Insadol 35 mg (coated tablet). We reviewed the information sheet that
accompanied the medication and it stated that the main ingredient is
titrated extract of the unsaponifiable part of Zea Mays L.
In an attempt to determine what this was, we accessed the interent and found
the correlation with corn. The medication is used in auxilary treatment of
certain diseases of the gum. Needless to say, no one on my faculty is
familiar with this medication or its relation to treating gum disease.
I was hoping you might be able to provide me with some rationale for its use
or perhaps you could refer me to an appropriate resource.
